Viking 40th Anniversary Artwork

NASA's Mars Viking 1 and Viking 2 mission:
40th Anniversary Artwork

Anniversary artwork shows rotating, polaroid-style pictures of NASA Viking 1 and Viking 2 Orbiters and Landers. Infographic Text for rotating images: Fourth Rock from the Sun, First Photo from Mars,

In July, 1976, the United States celebrated its bicentennial (200th) anniversary, disco dancing was big, Jimmy Carter was running for President, and humanity saw the first successful landing on the surface of another planet: Mars.

Touching down on July 20, 1976, NASA's Viking 1 Lander took its first picture of the dusty, rocky surface and relayed the historic image back to Earthlings eagerly awaiting its arrival. The Viking 2 Lander followed on September 3, 1976.

Both the Viking 1 and Viking 2 Orbiters collected years of high-resolution imagery and scientific data. All blazed a trail on the #JourneyToMars, which will one day take humans to the Red Planet too.
