Inside InSight: A Mars Explorer and a Musician

August 02, 2018

French engineers developed and built a quake-detecting device - a seismometer - to send to Mars as part of the NASA InSight mission. Project manager Philippe Laudet of CNES, the French space agency, is both a musician and space explorer - two very different worlds, yet two similar human experiences.

Landing in November 2018, NASA's InSight will probe beneath the surface of Mars, study the planet's interior and shed light on how rocky planets - inside and outside our solar system - form.
