NASA MARS MAKERS

NASA's Mars Makers

Welcome to a place for invention to be celebrated.

Mars Makers is connected to the movement to encourage creativity and innovation from people around the world who turn ideas into inventions that will improve our lives on Earth and wherever our exploration takes us - to Mars and beyond!

"To make an apple pie from scratch, we must first invent the universe."

- Carl Sagan

Makerbot: Mars Base Challenge
In cooperation with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory

3D Printing Challenge

Could you live on Mars?

Certainly not without great design and engineering. Taking Mars' extreme cold, high radiation levels, lack of oxygen, and frequent dust storms into consideration, design a utilitarian Mars base that can withstand the elements and maybe even make you feel at home, despite being 140 million miles away from Earth, on average.

Student teams think about a human future on the Red Planet and what it will take to survive and thrive in its extreme environment... and in the process, imagine ideal communities here on Earth where their creativity can make a difference.
