During late December 2025 and January 2026, Mars and Earth are on opposite sides of the Sun, blocking radio communications between them. Perseverance will resume sending raw images in late January. Watch video on Mars solar conjunction

Mars Perseverance Sol 2: Rover Down-Look Camera

This image was taken by EDL_RDCAM onboard NASA's Mars rover Perseverance on Sol 2

NASA's Mars Perseverance rover acquired this image using its Rover Down-Look Camera. This camera is mounted on the bottom of the rover and looks down at the surface. This is one still frame from a sequence captured by the camera while taking video.

This image was acquired on Feb. 22, 2021 (Sol 2) at the local mean solar time of 10:40:26.
