Curiosity revealed a lot about Mars in her first year exploring Gale Crater. Learn more about some of her remarkable discoveries in this video from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Dr. Charles Elachi, JPL Director: Good morning, Mr. President.

President Obama (on phone): I just wanted to call and say congratulations to the entire Mars Science Laboratory team. What you've accomplished embodies the American spirit and your passion and your commitment is making a difference. You guys have done an outstanding job. You have made us all proud. Curiosity is going to be telling us things that we did not know before and laying the groundwork for an even more audacious undertaking in the future, and that is a human mission to the Red Planet.

Mars Science Laboratory team member: To recap here, we have a set of go, no-go criteria and we want to make sure that the vehicle is healthy and safe. I will give everybody a heads-up about 15 minutes in advance of when we're expecting data.

Mars Science Laboratory team member: Images are coming down and everything looks good, really.

Mars Science Laboratory team member: Okay, we're getting image data.
