French engineers developed and built a quake-detecting device - a seismometer - to send to Mars as part of the NASA InSight mission. The seismometer’s principal investigator, Philippe Lognonné of France’s IPGP, is equally excited to study marsquakes as he is to inspire the next generation of Martian explorers.

Landing in November 2018, NASA's InSight will probe beneath the surface of Mars, study the planet's interior and shed light on how rocky planets - inside and outside our solar system - form.
