During a team meeting for NASA’s Opportunity rover, Ben Cark of the Space Science Institute (center) talks about his experiences working on NASA’s longest-lived Mars surface explorer. Scientists and engineers who had worked on the rover over the 14-plus years of operation gathered at Mission Control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, to discuss the last attempts to listen for the rover’s signal from Mars on Feb. 12, 2019 and to impart what the mission meant to them.
