The amount and quality of sound received by a copy of SuperCam's microphone was measured in an anechoic chamber, designed to dampen soundwaves that reflect, or bounce off other surfaces. This microphone is mounted on a mockup of the rover's remote sensing mast, or "head," to simulate the context in which the actual microphone will be placed.
